Come and discover NYC in the summer and engage in cutting edge research in Materials Science as a participant in our joint IDMinNYC and CREST IDEALS Summer REU programs. Work in a reseach lab at Lehman College, City College or the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center and participate in professional development workshops and some fun group activities and outings to explore NYC.


Our Integrated Design of Materials in New York City (IDMinNYC) Program is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and is designed to tap into the national need for accelerating the pace of discovery and deployment of advanced material systems while simultaneously promoting soft skills in science communication and collaboration. Together with the CREST IDEALS program at City College we offer a unique Materials Science summer experience where students engage in cutting edge research at state of the art research facilities.


What the program offers you:

As a Summer REU participant you will be matched with a faculty advisor in chemistry, physics or engineering at Lehman College, City College or the Advnaced Science Research Center. You will engage in a 10-week summer research program that includes cutting edge research projects and facilitites, coupled to professional development and communication activities.


As an REU participant you will:

  1. Earn a Stipend of up to 6K/for the summer ($600/week for 10 weeks)

  2. Receive up to $600 for travel to and from NYC

  3. Receive free on-campus housing if you live out of state

  4. Engage in orginal research and become trained to use cutting edge research instrumentation.

  5. Participate in biweekly research and professional development workshops

  6. Receive guidance on the Graduate School experience and application process.
